Several schools in Salayea District, Lofa County are expected to benefit from the development of modern toilet facilities.  The project is constructed under the theme “Providing

Sanitation and Hygiene Facilities for Rural Schools in Liberia” will help schools in Yarpuah, Gbansue, Gorlu, Gbonyan, and Salayea towns.

Laying out the objectives and goals behind the project, Executive Director and Founder of Camp for Peace Liberia, Mr. B. Abel Learwellie said the project was secured through a rigorous and competitive process from the Direct Aid Program of the Australian High Commission, an Australia Government founder project.  Mr. Learwellie disclosed that the project cost AUD 32,488 which equivalent is USD 23,161.

Speaking in an exclusive interview from the United States via the Australian news Flash, Mr. Learwellie stressed that the project would help in addressing the urgent and unmet WASH needs of students, teachers, and parents of the selected schools in the district.  According to him, the project is intended to reduce open defecation and prevent the spread of diseases. He further stated that the project would benefit approximately 12,500 residents living in these communities and ensure that beneficiaries have improved access to adequate sanitation facilities and an increased understanding of key health risks related to WASH. Mr. Learwellie underscored the need for these communities to adopt positive hygiene practices to prevent health risks. He maintains that the construction of these lockable latrines facilities at these schools will mitigate diseases, ensure privacy and security of women and girls and give easy access for the elderly and those with disabilities. Mr. Learwellie concludes that his organization will establish school WASH clubs comprising of students, teachers, and parents who will be encouraged to implement WASH activities. He used the occasion to extend his most profound thanks and gratitude to the Australia Government for restoring confidence in his organization to implement such a vibrant project.  Addressing his colleagues and staff, Mr. Learwellie guarantees that the Australian People taxpayer money will be used solely for what it is intended to demonstrate value for money and maintain the valuable reputation of Camp for Peace Liberia.

Meanwhile, the local communities have expressed great enthusiasm and embrace the idea of modern toilet facilities in their communities.  They revealed their most profound gratitude in Camp for Peace and the Direct Aid Program of the Australia High Commission.
